About/What Happened?

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) happens every November. Participants endeavour to write 50,000 words in one month, writing on average 1,667 words per day to complete the challenge. Since 2001, it grew into a large international community.

During April and July, Camp NaNo allowed participants to set their own goal (i.e. write 10,000 words, edit 50 pages) for the month.

In 2025, the nonprofit officially running NaNoWriMo shuttered down. The reasons are thoroughly documented here. While the organization has closed, the writing challenge and community will continue on.

This site isn’t affiliated with the nonprofit or its past actions. The nanowrimo.ca domain was secured as the term is the most well known acronym for this writing challenge. It functions as a centre for NaNoWriMo participants to find resources and communities (both virtual and in-person) to assist on their writing journey.
